Our story

A tiny apiary with a big dream

Villa Bee is Geoff and Kathryn Belleville's family apiary in Springfield, Oregon. It began with our first package of bees and has grown into a small sanctuary on the edge of a wildlife refuge.

Where it began

One package of bees

Our first colony came from GloryBee in Eugene. We call her colony the Red Hive, and her queen the West Coast Queen. She's docile, her bees are calm, and they gather more propolis than any hive we've kept since.

Then came the Yellow Hive, a Carniolan colony from Kona, Hawaiʻi, that gave us more than 50 lbs of honey and refilled it right away. By the 2026 Honey Harvest the yard had grown to six hives: Orange, Red, Purple, Green, Yellow and Blue.

The sanctuary

Oaks, daisies and a refuge next door

Our hives sit among the oaks beside an Oregon wildlife refuge. The bees forage on cherry blossom in spring and wild blackberry in summer, and each hive brings home something a little different. We keep every hive's harvest separate so you can taste that difference.

We harvest one box at a time and take only what the colony can spare. Everything else, from the balm to the cold cream, is made by hand in small batches in Springfield.
