Botanical & hive science

Let's take a deep dive

What goes into each product, why we chose it and how to use it. Small-batch apothecary formulas built around the four treasures of the hive.

The four treasures of the hive

Honey

Raw and unheated, with its natural pollen and propolis left in. Our sweetener and the base of Honey Wash.

Beeswax

The bees' building material. It gives our balms and creams their body and helps seal in moisture.

Propolis

A resin the bees collect from trees to seal and protect the hive. Our Red Hive gathers the most.

Royal jelly

The rich food workers make for their queen. A prized ingredient in both Royal Creams.

Raw Honey

Unfiltered, unheated, single-hive

Harvested frame by frame from individual hives on the border of the wildlife refuge. We don't blend hives, so every batch tastes a little different.

The sticker on the bottom of each jar shows its hive color, Red or Yellow. Flavor follows the nectar flow, from darker batches with cherry or blackberry notes to lighter, floral and sweeter ones. Raw honey may crystallize over time. That's normal. Warm the jar gently in a bowl of warm water to soften it.
